What We Believe as Christians:
We take the command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength very seriously. We believe in the triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We have faith in the mystery of salvation in and through Jesus Christ. We hold the belief that God’s redemptive love is realized in human life by the activity of the Holy Spirit, both in personal experience and in the community of believers. We recognize the reign of God as both a present and future reality and the authority of Scripture in matters of faith and practice. We celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
What We Believe as United Methodists:
Grace is central to our understanding of Christian faith and life. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, described God’s grace as threefold: prevenient grace, justifying grace and sanctifying grace. Without grace, we cannot experience Christ's extravagant gift of salvation. We understand the Christian life as one in which we express our faith through acts of mercy and love. Because of what God has done for us, we offer our lives back to God through a life of service. United Methodists maintain a balanced view in their ways of thinking through Christian doctrine, believing that the living core of the Christian faith is revealed in scripture, illumined by tradition, enlivened by experience and confirmed by reason.
Elm Springs UMC is a congregation of the United Methodist Church, a historic and global denomination that includes nations and ethnicities all over the world. To find out more about what United Methodist Christians believe, check out www.umc.org.
What We Believe as Neighbors:
We believe the command to love your neighbor as yourself is a calling for all Christians. Not only do we want to love people in our own church family, but we want to love our neighbors throughout Washington and Benton County by helping them when they need a hand. We love our neighbors through our Neighbors Helping Neighbors ministry which includes food assistance, snack pack ministry, community engagement, affordable housing, and more.
